01 · WHAT COMES FROM THE PHOTOGRAPH
From image to musical material
- Time and form
- For music analysis, Blossound reads the whole photograph from left to right. Its left edge becomes the opening; its right edge becomes the ending. Changes in visual rhythm propose phrase boundaries and harmonic turns.
- Motif
- Across 32 vertical slices, local edges, energy, and contour become a short thematic profile. The theme can return as a statement, answer, sequence, fragment, or homecoming; it is developed rather than translated pixel by pixel.
- Tonal centre
- The dominant hue selects one of twelve key centres along the circle of fifths. It does not turn every color into a separate note.
- Rhythm and silence
- Local edges and energy decide where an onset is invited and where the music should breathe. Visual rhythm shapes short notes, held notes, rests, phrase breaks, harmonic pace, and the density of the supporting texture.
- Color in space
- Up to five perceptually distinct colors are separated into connected regions that retain their position and spread across the complete photograph. Matching colors on opposite sides remain distinct blocks instead of collapsing into one false centre. They paint the vellum field, while high and low color regions can inflect phrase shape and register. Local detail and visual rhythm may invite restrained ornaments. Neither independently generates notes or instruments.
